The CoinLion Strategy Builder is robust and has many possible inputs. We'll define what each of the fields mean in this article.
Asset to Trade: This is the crypto asset you want to buy or sell automatically with this strategy.
Basis Points Buffer: EMAs sometimes flip-flop, triggering signals too frequently. This field can be used to ensure that two EMAs have clearly crossed before a buy or sell signal is issued. For example, if you enter 20 into this field, it ensures that the two EMAs being compared are greater or less than each other by at least 20 basis points. If you aren’t familiar with a basis point, here are example conversions: 10 basis points is 0.10%. 30 basis points is 0.30%.
Buy Signals: The indicators that you add and configure in this section will be what triggers buys (opens position) for this strategy.
Currency for Trades: This is the base currency for this strategy. The currency you select will be used as a medium of exchange when your strategy is placing trades.
EMA: This indicator allows you to compare two different EMA lengths against each other or one EMA against the current price. For example, you can trigger a signal when the 5 EMA is greater than the 20 EMA.
Enable Buying: When checked, buying is enabled for this strategy. Important note: if you are using pause/resume buy signals in this automated strategy, those signal settings will override your manual selections here. As an example, if you turn this off manually by unchecking it, it could automatically get flipped back on through the settings below.
Enable Selling: When checked, selling is enabled for this strategy. Important note: if you are using pause/resume sell signals in this automated strategy, those signal settings will override your manual selections here. As an example, if you turn this off manually by unchecking it, it could automatically get flipped back on through the settings below.
Indicator Timeframe: This is the candle length your signal will be using. Different parts of a chart candle show the open price, close price, and highest and lowest prices during that timeframe. As an example, a 15-minute candle would represent all that information for a 15-minute timeframe. Shorter timeframes are typically seen as more aggressive because longer timeframes are using more data and therefore a more established signal.
MACD: This indicator is only looking at the histogram value. When using for buys, the indicator will fire a buy signal if the current market Histogram Value is less than the value specified in the Histogram Value field. When using for sells, the indicator will fire a signal if the market indicates that the Histogram Value is greater than the value specified in the Histogram Value field. The "Signal Smoothing" field can be modified to add or reduce noise. The "Fast Length" and "Slow Length" default to standard Histogram values and should only be modified by experienced traders.
Make strategy public: If you check this field on, other users will be able to start following your Public Strategies. Use this field with caution as changes you make within your own strategies will impact your followers.
Maximum number of open positions: A single strategy can open up more than one position. This field indicates the maximum number of positions that can be open at the same time. The other fields within this section will help you control when positions are opened and closed.
Open add’l positions when price is better by: Commonly known as the Iceberg Rule, this will only allow another position to be opened if the price is less than the price of the previous position by the % specified. Example: If you place 0.50 in this field, the strategy will only open a new position if the pricing is 0.50% better than the prior position opened. This field becomes useless and is ignored if you have a “1” in the “Maximum number of open positions” field.
Pause Buy Signals: The indicators you add or configure in this section will automatically disable any buying for this strategy until turned back on automatically using a "resume buy signal" or manually by checking the "Buying enabled" checkbox.
Pause Sell Signals: The indicators you add or configure in this section will automatically disable any selling for this strategy until turned back on automatically using a "resume sell signal" or manually by checking the “Selling enabled" checkbox.
Portfolio Allocation: This is the portion of your auto-tradable balance that will be used for this auto-trade strategy.
Resume Buy Signals: The indicators you add or configure in this section will automatically turn buying back on for this strategy until turned off automatically using a "pause buy signal" or manually by unchecking the "Buying enabled" checkbox.
Resume Sell Signals: The indicators you add or configure in this section will automatically turn selling back on for this strategy until turned off automatically using a "pause sell signal" or manually by unchecking the "Selling enabled" checkbox.
RSI: This indicator is only looking at the RSI value. The Period field indicates the number of candles considered. When using for buys, the indicator will fire a buy signal if the market data RSI is less than the value specified in the Signal Value field. When using with sells, the indicator will fire a sell signal if the market data RSI is greater than the value specified in the Signal Value field.
Sell Signals: The indicators that you add and configure in this section will be what triggers sells (closes open positions) for this strategy. Use either sell signals OR the “What is your goal % gain on each trade” field, but not both.
Stochastic: This indicator is only looking at the Stochastic value. The input fields are standard Stochastic Oscillator fields. When using for buys, then it will fire a signal if the market data Stochastic is less than the value specified in the Signal Value field. When using for sells, the indicator will fire a signal if the market data Stochastic is greater than the value specified in the Signal Value field.”
Stop Loss: A position will sell if down by this percent or greater, regardless of other settings. Example: If you enter a 3 into this field, then the system will sell when a position is down 3% or greater. Note: If the market is dropping quickly, losses may exceed the % specified in this field.
Strategy Name: The name that will appear in your trade history and if you choose to make strategy public.
Time after a sell and before a buy: Small, but quick market fluctuations can sometimes trigger sell and buy signals almost simultaneously. Use this field to avoid buying right back in after a sell. After placing a sell, the system will wait at least the time specified here before placing a buy. This is particularly useful if you are using EMAs for buy and sell signals.
Time after a buy and before the next buy: If your strategy allows for more than 1 position to be open at a time, the system will wait at least this long before it opens another position. This allows you to set a “cool down” between buys. People usually use this field or the “Open add’l positions when price is better by” field, but not both.
Time after a buy and before a sell: Small, but quick market fluctuations can sometimes trigger buy and sell signals almost simultaneously. Use this field to avoid selling a position right after it was opened. After placing a buy, the system will wait for the amount of time specified here before placing a sell. This is particularly useful if you are using EMAs for buy and sell signals.
What is your goal % gain on each trade: This is the minimum desired profit per closed position. Example: If you put a 1 in this field, the position will automatically sell when it has a profit of 1% or greater. If sell signals are enabled below, this field will be ignored, even if you enter a number if this field.
